‘We are ready to represent our supporters and Cambodian football’ – Conor Nestor on the AFC Cup play-off
Phnom Penh៖ Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng welcome Master 7 of Laos in the first leg of the AFC Cup play-off at the National Olympic Stadium this Wednesday, and Conor Nestor is desperately looking forward to the tie.The champions of Cambodia produced excellent record during their pre-season tour in Malaysia, where they defeated three different Malaysian top-flight sides.
“We are as ready as we can be, and we are looking forward to representing our supporters and Cambodian football,” the Irish coach told camsports.org.“Our pre-season has been reasonably good. I think we aren’t quite at full fitness yet, but the players have been working hard. The performance in the pre-season games has been good.
“We have a number of injury concerns prior to the game this Wednesday, but hopefully everyone will be ready.
“I have watched their pre-season friendlies as well as many games from last season, but it’s a new coach. They have some new foreign signings also, so we need to be prepared for something unexpected.“Winning breeds confidence into every team, and we are no different. But the season really only starts this Wednesday, and everything that goes before that will become irrelevant.
“I’m always confident in my team, but that confidence is also blended with a respect for our opponent. We will have the necessary belief to win, but believing and doing are separate things.”
