Play-off - 1st Leg: Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC 4-1 Master 7 FC
Phnom Penh: Cambodia's Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng FC defeated Master 7 FC of Laos 4-1 in the AFC Cup Play-off 1st Leg at the National Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.
Two goals each from Hoy Phallin and Jean Mbarga saw Conor Nestor's side claim an emphatic win ahead of the return leg at the National Stadium in Vientiane next Wednesday.
Both teams, who were making their AFC Cup bow, were evenly matched at the start with Svay Rieng looking more threatening.
The 2019 C-League champions took the lead after Sok Samnang surged down the left before finding an unmarked Hoy Phallin, who slammed the ball home from close range.
Master 7 equalised 10 minutes later through Souleymane Coulibaly, who pounced on a misunderstanding between Jonathan Campbell and Svay Rieng goalkeeper Aim Sovannarath at the top of the box to stab home the ball into the gaping goalmouth.
The Cambodian club, however, restored their advantage in the 40th minute when Jean Mbarga timed his run to perfection after being fed by Prak Mony Udom and the Cameroonian went on to beat the off-side trap and then the advancing Master 7 custodian Shota Wada before scoring.
Svay Rieng continued to dominate in the second half and increased their tally in the 62nd minute as Mbarga scored from a distance after catching Wada off his line.
Phallin added his second of the evening, after latching on to Thiago Santos’ delivery from the right before stabbing home Svay Rieng's fourth goal from close range.
